Description

This 1876 English Music Hall song praised a very real product, “Doctor De Jongh’s Light Brown Cod Liver Oil”, developed by a Dutch chemist named Ludovicus Josephus de Jongh.  The label read, “Highly recommended by Medical Men for Consumption, Diseases of the Throat and Chest, Bronchitis Chronic Coughs, and All Wasting Diseases” and added “Sold by Most Respectable Chemists & Stores”.
