Istanbul (Not Constantinople)

Description

This 1953 Jimmy Kennedy and music by Nat Simon song was recorded by The Four Lads, and their version remains my favorite.  But, of course even The Four Lads didn’t have a harp on their track.  Mine does.

The city of Constantinople was officially renamed Istanbul in 1923, even though it was already called Istanbul by the Turkish people.  In the 1930s the Turkish postal service refused to deliver mail addressed to Constantinople, which forced the world to accept the new name.
